UK4 server offline for hardware checks

Sunday, April 21st, 2013

The UK4 server is currently offline for important hardware checks as it started “misbehaving”. Please connect via another UK server we have.

UPDATE: Server is back online, it was just a software related issue. Server has been tested and is in excellent condition.

US6 server OpenVPN access disabled

Friday, April 12th, 2013

OpenVPN on our US6 server has been disabled temporarily, due to a recent BitTorrent abuse incident. Please use the US4 server.

Also, I have mentioned it many times before and apparently I have to say it again:

Do *NOT use any of our US located servers for downloading any copyrighted material using BitTorrents (and not only)!

The copyright holding companies place fake “bait” on the BT network and when you download this bait, they record the IP address. Since if you are connected via our VPN, it is our IP address that shows in their logs.

They then contact our webhost, who forwards the abuse incident to us. This technically leaves me having to deal with the mess. Just do not do it. Anyone found downloading any copyrighted material via Bittorrent using our US servers will be expelled from our servers.

Our main server will be undergoing maintenance Tomorrow. The server downtime is expected to be less than 30 minutes. We do not know the exact time yet, unfortunately. I apologize for any inconvenience in advance.

Small VAT (Value Added Tax) increase for EU customers

Saturday, December 29th, 2012

Beginning on January 1 2013, the VAT, or Value Added Tax, on all Identity Cloaker subscriptions will be increased from the current 20% to 21% due to recent local tax legislation change. As we are a European Union based company, we have to charge this tax to all EU customers without a valid VAT ID.

Customers from other countries will not be affected by this change.

Server in Russia will be available next week

Monday, September 24th, 2012

After some unexpected delays, for which I apologize, a server in Russia will be ordered in the next few days and and will be online sometime next week. Updates will be posted when we have more information.

UPDATE: The Russian server has been finally ordered on 13th November and should be online in the next few days. I apologize for the delay, it was difficult to find a dedicated server provider meeting our criteria.

New server in Italy ordered

Friday, July 6th, 2012

A new server in Rome, Italy has been ordered and will be online in a few days. This server should resolve issues with incorrect IP address geolocation, reported with the older IT 1 server.

UPDATE on 15th July 2012:

The IT2 server is now fully online and is running all services. i.e. proxy server, OpenVPN, L2TP over IPSec VPN and PPTP VPN. We have tested the speed and it’s indeed excellent from our test location but feel free to share your results with us.

Scheduled maintenance on May 24

Monday, May 21st, 2012

Dear customers,

On May 24, the main Identity Cloaker server will be inaccessible for less than 6 hours during the night between 10:30PM until approximately 4:00AM May 25, Central European Time.

Reason: Our webhosting company will be moving the server to a new datacenter that will provide better services as well as connection to other datacenters.

If you absolutely do need to use our services during the main server downtime, please contact our customer support who will send you instructions on how to access our proxy and VPN servers directly, even if the main server is offline.

I apologize for the inconvenience and realize that such a long downtime is something nobody likes, however, in the long term we will all profit from it.

IdentityCloaker.com Administrator

P.S. This information has been also emailed to our users 2 days ago.

Update: The scheduled maintenance ended as expected and the server is back online now, after approximately 5 hours and 10 minutes of downtime.

New locations for servers

Monday, April 2nd, 2012

From time to time we receive requests to add servers in new locations and if there is demand, we do add it. We are currently waiting for the release of a new version of Identity Cloaker as the current one does not have support for some countries but once it’s released, you can expect new servers in Russia, Spain and Portugal.

We have been also considering Singapore, however, the demand seems to be rather low and costs very high. If you have another idea where we should have servers, please contact our customer support and we will consider it.

Do *NOT* download Identity Cloaker at download.com

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

Although it’s truly unbelieveable to us, download.com – a part of the CNET.com network, and one of the largest software download repositories, is distributing malware infected versions of different applications found in their repository. Not only they are distributing malware, they are the ones who actually adds it to the files you download!

Unfortunately, the Identity Cloaker installer found in their repository is currently not an exception. Do *NOT* download Identity Cloaker at download.com, download it from our website directly.

The whole story is described at http://insecure.org/news/download-com-fiasco.html

If you downloaded Identity Cloaker, or any other application, at download.com in the past few months, tell them what you think about this practice…

UPDATE – The CNET’s installer was removed from the Identity Cloaker file listed at download.com, which means the download is clean again. Still, we suggest you download Identity Cloaker from our website only as in our eyes CNET has lost its good reputation.
